Having a baby is one of life´s most exciting and memorable moments, but can also be quite overwhelming for mothers-to-be and their families. At the Family Birthplace at Memorial Regional Hospital, we pay attention to details that can help keep you healthy and happy during pregnancy. Our goal is to help make your birthing experience safe, comfortable and stress-free for you, your baby and the most important people in your life.
The compassion and expertise of our physicians and nursing staff, combined with the comfort and security of our renovated mother/baby suites, create an environment where you're not only cared for, but cared about. From the time you discover you're pregnant, you may receive support and guidance through Memorial Regional Hospital's childbirth and parenting classes to help prepare you and your body for delivery. Even after you leave the hospital, resources are available to help you and your family provide confident care for your newborn. There's even a boot camp for new dads.
Now, more than ever, mothers-to-be have a vast array of childbirth options and resources available to them. Talk with your physician or midwife to discuss which maternity services at Memorial Regional Hospital may best suit your needs. To expedite the registration process, please fill out the secure online Family Birthplace Patient Information Request Form.
We believe bringing new life into the world is a celebration to be shared in comfort and privacy by your entire family. At the heart of the Family Birthplace is our family-centered care philosophy, which focuses on information-sharing and collaboration between families and medical professionals. We strive to create a comfortable environment for our new moms and the whole family.
While some may consider them small touches, we understand these details can be monumental comforts during the birthing and postpartum experiences. Meticulous planning went into the renovation of the maternity floor of the Family Birthplace. Furnishings that accentuate earth tones and natural design elements create a warm, calming environment with amenities you might expect to find in a luxury hotel. The Family Birthplace offers up to 39 private suites and a total of 53 beds. Special features include:
- Flat-screen TVs, DVD players and wireless Internet in every room
- Floor-to-ceiling wooden trim and furnishings from matte-finished all-wood floors to solid-oak cabinets and mobile "sleigh" cribs
- In-closet safes to store valuables
- Subtle ambient lighting and plenty of sunshine from exterior windows offering panoramic South Florida views from the eighth floor
- Cookies baked fresh daily in the kitchen
- Docking stations for digital media players in each of the 14 labor/delivery/recovery suites allow you to design a labor playlist to help you create a relaxing personal space
Each patient room is designed to provide mom with well-deserved privacy and optimal rest. Family and visitors may relax in a spacious, separated entry area furnished with a sleeper sofa, dinette set and an additional telephone and TV. Fathers may get away to a private shower area and lounge down the hall. In addition, the courtesy kitchen is open with fresh coffee and beverages around-the-clock.
The safety of newborns and mothers is utmost priority at Memorial Regional Hospital, which uses a highly advanced controlled-access security system. Electronically locked and secured single entrances to the Family Birthplace and the labor/delivery/recovery suites are monitored 24 hours a day by security personnel and numerous closed-circuit surveillance cameras. From birth until discharge from the hospital, your baby will wear a security band with an electronically monitored sensor to enhance safety for your family.
Advanced medical services and technology are available for high-risk deliveries at the Family Birthplace. If something unexpected happens during your pregnancy, labor, delivery or post delivery, you can feel confident the maternity staff at Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is prepared and available around-the-clock.
Our maternity staff of board-certified obstetricians, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and specially trained obstetrical and neonatal nurses uses some of the latest techniques and procedures to monitor moms and babies 24 hours a day. Every nurse is certified in neonatal resuscitation, and our labor and delivery nurses are certified in advanced cardiac life support and fetal monitoring. Located immediately adjacent to the Family Birthplace labor/delivery/recovery suites is the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Wasie Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which provides level II and level III care for newborns with complications, and is one of only 11 Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Centers in Florida.
Simply put, at the Family Birthplace, some of the most experienced maternity staff, physicians and neonatologist specialists in the country are only footsteps away.
The Family Birthplace at Memorial offers a childbirth education program called Expectations and Beyond which features classes on pregnancy planning, childbirth preparation, baby care, infant CPR and more. Classes should be taken beginning the mother's 20th week of pregnancy. From support groups for nursing mothers to a boot camp for new dads, resources are available even after you leave the hospital. Class registration is easy. Go to our online Class Information Request form or call 954-265-5930.
